I recently had the opportunity to fulfill a long-time desire for my life. It’s something that a lot of people, if not the majority of people, do everything they can to avoid. What was it? I got selected for Jury Duty!
Not only did I get selected and had to appear, but I got the full experience. I went through the interview and selection process, was selected as a Juror, went through a three-day trial, and was even selected as the Foreman of the Jury when it came time for deliberation and the proclamation of the verdict. It wasn’t an “easy” trial, but I felt like I was able to be used by the Lord to help a family who had experienced traumatic events.
I had always known that the role of the witnesses played a vital role in determining the outcome of a trial. But, seeing it play out first hand I truly gained a deep appreciation for eyewitness and expert testimony. But it also got me thinking about why we, as the Church, exist.
If we think about it in the context of a court case, I believe that Jesus Christ and the Word of God has been put on trial by the world. Our role as the Church is to bring eyewitness and expert testimonies to the reality of the person and work of Christ and the truth of His Word!
