Weekend mode. That’s what our boys call from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. They act like their week is so taxing and as soon as they finish their homeschooling for the day on Friday afternoon they enter “Weekend Mode.” Which essentially is them doing what they do every afternoon and evening but just without having to do their school work in the morning and early afternoon. Obviously, let the homeschool jokes begin, but trust me when I say that the schedule Erin has for them is not taxing but for a 9 and 6 year old they act at times like it’s the end of the world.
Even though our boys go into “Weekend Mode” on Friday afternoon, from what I observe on a regular basis, a lot of Christians live in “Weekend Mode” every day. Not from their work, school, sports, and other activities though. But sadly, from a genuine relationship with the Lord Jesus and the responsibilities of serving Him with their whole heart.
I’ve even heard people say multiple times things like this, “I’m just volunteering for this why am I expected to do so much?” or “Why am I getting evaluated for this when I’m just giving my extra time do it?” My question is this, “Why would anyone ever think that you have to get paid to do something to the best of your ability in service for the Lord?” Service for the Lord is not something that you check in and out of, it’s a 24/7/365 lifestyle. That’s being a Disciple and that’s what Jesus calls us to be.
Luke 10:27 says, “So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” Our full time job is to love God and to love others.
Let’s not go into “Weekend Mode” when it comes to our faith and our service for Him!
